How the 15 days are organised
This course is the training every Skillhancer Labs intern completes before their first client call. It is written for people who have never sold software before. You don't need to code: you find businesses, talk to them and bring in projects. Our developers build them.
Throughout the course, "your team lead" means the member of staff who runs your training. Take your questions to them.
What you will be able to do by day 15
- Explain how Skillhancer Labs works, and exactly when your commission is paid
- Describe our four services and recognise the businesses that need each one
- Build a list of local businesses worth contacting, and contact them in a way that gets replies
- Run a discovery call and take notes the developers can scope from
- Help write a proposal, present it, and handle the questions that follow
- Follow up, ask for a decision, and hand a signed client to the developers
A suggested plan
The lessons are in the order you will use them with a real client. This pace works for most people:
| Days | Section | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Start here | Read the four lessons. Write down any question about pay or conduct and ask your team lead. |
| 3–4 | Our four services | Read the service lessons. For each service, name three local businesses that could use it. |
| 5–6 | Finding businesses | Start your prospect list. It becomes your final project. |
| 7–9 | The discovery call | Practise the call with another intern or your team lead, at least twice. |
| 10–11 | Proposals | Draft a proposal from one of your practice calls. |
| 12–13 | Objections, follow-ups and closing | Role-play objections and write your follow-up messages. |
| 14 | Handing over | Write a handover brief from your practice proposal. |
| 15 | Your first project | Finish the prospecting project and submit it for review. |
How to use each lesson
- Read it through once. Most lessons take 5 to 10 minutes.
- Do the exercise at the end, in writing. The exercises build toward the final project.
- Mark the lesson complete. Your progress shows in My learning.
- Download any lesson as a PDF if you want it on paper or offline.
Practise out loud
Reading about a discovery call is not the same as running one. Book practice calls with another intern or your team lead, and swap roles. Record a practice call only if everyone on it agrees, then listen back for the questions you forgot to ask.
When you finish
Complete the project "Prospect 20 local businesses and qualify 5" and submit it on the Projects page of this course. A member of staff reviews it and either approves it or asks for changes. After the 15 days of training you sell real projects for one to three months, one month at least.
Exercise
Write down three things you want to be able to do by day 15, and one thing about selling that makes you nervous. Share them with your team lead on day 1.
